Braiding options include long or short, micro or mini braiding.
Short hair is not an obstacle because natural hair extensions are
available. To perform a braid the hair needs to be 3 to 4 inches long.
Longer styles usually require hair extensions of natural hair, which
are available in many colors and textures from curly to straight
whichever look you desire. Natural hair extensions can be integrated
with the hair to produce a seamless lengthy braid. There is a choice
of braid styles. The choice of braiding is limited by your imagination
and the cost.
Cost is related to the type of the braid and the time needed to
braid.
Box braids: Hair is sectioned into plaits and braided (2 hours and
longer to style).
Micro braids: Requires about 15-20 strands of
hair (6 hours and longer to style).
Micro-minis: Requires about
5-10 strands of hair in each braid (12 hours and longer to
style).
Cornrows: A row of hair that is sectioned off and braided,
usually straight or at an angle.
Twist: Hair is twisted, starting at the scalp in rows.
Crazy braids: Random braiding in different directions and
patterns.
Zigzag braids: Braids close to the head in z-shaped
directions.
Bantu knots: Hair is divided into plaits then twisted into
knots atop the head.
